To be honest, Brad wasn’t sure how you draw a line from doctor to novelist, but Ellen connected all the dots, including her work with NW Narrative Medical Collaborative, an initiative that helps train doctors how to hear patient stories in order to provide better care.

Ellen MichaelsonEllen Michaelson is a physician in Portland, Oregon, and an MFA graduate from Pacific University. She is an assistant professor of Medicine at OHSU and vice president of the board of the NW Narrative Medicine Collaborative. She was an NEH Fellow in Medical Humanities and attended Breadloaf Writers Conference.

Her work has appeared in Creative NonfictionPortland MonthlyWomen in Solitude (SUNY Press), and Literature in Medicine. The Care of Strangers is her first book.
